Will a pager receive a message anywhere? If
a pager is switched on, it will receive a message as long as it is in
range of a Paging transmitter. A pager will not receive a message if it

What are the different types of paging? Starpaging
offer three types of paging. Tone, numeric and Alphanumeric. Tone
Paging allows a simple alert tone to be sent to the pager. Numeric
paging allows a pager to receive a telephone number or other chosen
numeric message. For example, StarPaging offer a 10
standard text message which may be transmitted to your numeric pager by
simply entering a 3 digit code. If you wish your callers to use this
facility you should give them a copy of the codes as follows: - 001 Please call work
- 002 Please call home
- 003 Please call (add contact number)
- 004 Urgent please call (add contact number)
- 005 Appointment is okay at (add 24 hr time/date)

Finally
alphanumeric paging, allows a pager to receive a text message including
numbers of anything up to 220 characters. (A maximum of 400 characters
are available at an additional cost). Do you know who sent my last message ? We do not hold that information as all messages go through the bureau and caller identification information is not stored. How much does it cost to send a message to a pager? Calls
to business pagers are typically charged at a minimum of 4.2p per call.
Calls to CPP pagers are charged at 42.5p per minute at all times. How can I send a message to a pager ? There
are 3 ways to send a message to pager. The following instructions
outline the procedure. Your caller dials your pager number and hears
the standard system greeting or a personal greeting recorded by you. - Option
1 - they can interrupt the greeting and input a numeric message (a
contact number or secret code etc) provided they are making the call
from a tone generating telephone.
- Option
2 - if you supply the caller with a list of special 3 digit codes, they
can send any one of the 10 standard messages listed earlier.
- Option
3 - if you subscribe to an alphanumeric service the caller can wait for
the bureau operator who will send a text or numeric message to the
pager of up to 220 characters. (maximum 400 characters - see above)
Can you tell me someone's pager number ? We do not have a directory enquiry service for pager holders, all information is protected by the Data Protection Act 1988. Can I use my pager abroad ? StarPaging
only operates in the United Kingdom. All satellites and base stations
are UK based. Coverage is throughout the mainland, Northern Ireland,
Isle of Man, Orkneys and Shetland Isles but not the Channel Islands and
some of the outer Scottish Islands How much is a lost pager charge ? This
depends on the type of pager you have, should your pager be lost you
will incur a charge. For specific details please contact our customer
service team on 0800 667767. What are the difference in price for Tone, Numeric and Alphanumeric pagers ? The list price for Tone paging is £4.99, Numeric £6.99 and £12.99 for Message pagers including VAT per month. Can I keep the same pager number even if I swap my pager ? Yes
you can provided it is a subscription pager and not an CPP pager. The
pager number is with you for however long you keep a subscription
service. Do I have to pay for a spare User Guide ? No we can supply a user guide free of charge. I have forgotten my pager number We
can obtain the pager number by the serial number on the back of the
pager. To do this please contact customer services on 0800 667767 I have missed a message, can I have it read out to me ? No
all we can do is ask the bureau to retransmit the message to you. We
are unable to read the messages over the telephone due to Data
Protection Act 1988. If a paging message is missed will it automatically be resent by the network ? As
the paging network is a one way communication system, it has no way of
knowing whether or not a pager has received the message. Therefore, if
a message has been missed it will not automatically be resent once the
pager is switched back on or back in coverage. However each pager
message is numbered sequentially therefore you can identify if a
message has been missed and request that it be retransmitted. Can you use Tap and Datel ? Yes, but only on subscription pagers. How quickly can I get a replacement pager ? We can arrange for a replacement pager in 24 hours. How much does it cost to send a message via my PC? The cost is the same as a standard telephone call. How long does the battery last for ? A battery will typically last between 4 to 6 weeks. Can I use rechargeable batteries ? StarPaging would recommend using a good named battery and not rechargeable ones. |
